Fix the Loopholes on Background Checks

  • 40% of all firearms sold in the U.S. go without a criminal background check.
  • Indiana does not require private sellers at gun shows and on the internet to submit to a background check.|
  • Indiana accounts for 29% of guns used in crimes in Chicago. States with expanded background checks have about 50% less domestic violence deaths, police killed and guns trafficked.

The Gun Violence Prevention Resolution of 2017 is to demand Indianapolis and Washington D.C. enact common sense laws that protect our citizens from gun violence and honor our 2nd Amendment rights.
Protect Women and Children from Domestic Violence

  • Domestic violence involving firearms means women and children are more likely to die or suffer severe injury.

  • Many states have passed their own laws prohibiting domestic abusers married or not as well as stalkers from owning or purchasing firearms.

  • We can pass laws similar to Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act of 2013 (S.1290) which would close the loopholes in federal law that allows certain domestic abusers and stalkers to obtain guns.
